Apparently some people in Manchester are not happy about this piece of pavement parking.

Don't know when you got the picture, but try and find one from an hour later. If will be up on bricks with no wheels biggrin.gif

Probably first it'll be rammed through the front of a Co-Op with a cashpoint and a stash of ciggies.

And an hour after that the rest will be down a scrappy that doesn't ask any questions about ID or anything.

London is worse than Manchester. Manchester is not as intimidating and people are more friendly.
This is from my experience of living and working in both.

I think that's what's known as damning with faint praise.

I should imagine both cities have their bad (and good) parts.

I wonder which one is worst, Weatherfield or Walford? Fiiiiiight!!

This made the BBC news the other day just after i posted it having seen it on facebook or twitter.

Having current experience of both the east end of London and Salford in Gr Manchester I'd say the latter shades it in having armoured protection.

I read a story about this somewhere. I got the impression the residents quite like the fact it's there, or at least don't object to it.
It was more the council that suddenly had a problem with it, it's been there a while apparently.

They probably had one complaint and went out all guns blazing.
I can't find which story I read but I thought this wasn't the only one either, there are 2 or 3 in the area.

I’d love to see some CEO pics, with one showing a valid blue badge and clock (set correctly) on display...

On the subject of militaria, my father used to own and drive around Devon in a Willy’s jeep that had a submachine gun mounted on the back. He was never stopped for this (circa 1960). In fact he has only been arrested once (at his house) for possessing a submachine gun with ammunition. He was of course let off with a caution.

Edit: I should add he’s not a gangster, just an enthusiast.

I doubt it was a mounted SUBmachine gun!

Medium/General Purpose more likely.

Depends if an authentic piece or just strapped on for the look.
Jeeps of that era often had machine guns fitted, twin Lewis guns were a favourite with SAS or LRDG jeeps in the desert. USA forces tended towards Brownings, 30 or 50cal.
Historical pictures also show mounted Bren guns.
TBH although I agree it would be unlikely for the lighter SMGs to be mounted, Stens and the like, I could see a squaddie or GI cobbling on a Thompson with drum mag.

Ah yes machine gun, sorry, but this was all before I was born.

However I grew up around surrounded by antique weapons. And when I moved to a leafy north London suburb my father thought he’d pass some on to me. Every time a man comes to read the meter I explain why I have 2 (deactivated) rifles and several swords in the understairs cupboard.

Here’s a picture of said father on Dartmoor next to an old tank (he’s waving, honestly)

And one of his jeeps:

I doubt anyone would cobble on a mounted Sten/Thomson!

Yes could be an LMG such as a Bren, more likely (the one seen most) is a 30 06 Browning.

Much as I generally approve, we all know these are relatively easy to buy second hand.

Is there not a worry with them about terrorism? If some twit thinks Allah has told him to drive a van at people they can be stopped by stuff the police can realistically scramble.

If someone did the same in a tank I'd think it would be very difficult to do the same.
