Hi,

Apologies if this has been posted before, I looked but couldn't find anything relevant.

Just got a ticket next to a local Tesco where there is no parking. Parked on a side road on a single yellow for about two minutes whilst I ran in to get my son some lunch. Ran back out and the parking officer was walking to my car, saw me coming and put the ticket under the windscreen wiper quickly. I said to him "that's not valid as it isn't stuck to the windscreen" and went to hand it back to him (probably a mistake) at which point he took a photo of me with the ticket in my hand.

The plastic wrapping is sealed and the sticky tape cover is clearly on. It was always my understanding it has to be stuck to the windscreen but have little confidence in that! I think he was just rushing to get it on there before I drove off.

He was the most obnoxious person ever, I'd absolutely love to get out of this on a technicality just because of the way he spoke to me but also because of the money involved.

Any info or advice would be gratefully received!

Wever.

No, the PCN only has to be served on the car or to you. Sounds like it was.

Post it anyway - there may be a fault on it. Use a site such as Imgur.

There are exemptions for yellow line waiting but shopping isn't one of them.

What was the restriction on the timeplate where you parked?

Pretty sure it was single yellow line no parking until 630pm.

I knew I was in the wrong...but they NEVER police the three spaces that are 20 minutes only, outside Tesco so people park there all day and there is never anywhere legal to stop outside. So annoying!

Other than its right on a corner, the state of those lines could perhaps be argued as non compliant

OP----if you look at the photos on the Council's website (that's why we advise you redact details cool.gif ) you will notice that your friendly CEO has taken a photo of the sign which relates to a SYL plus a photo of you driving away with the SYL in shot.

However your car appears to be stopped on DYLs. Not sure if this is of any use because the contravention will be the same.

However I would bang in a challenge and let us see what their reply is. If their response is you were caught on a SYL then we might have wriggle room. Otherwise the discount looks the best bet.

Thanks for looking Mad Mick V - I'm looking good in those photos, not!

No idea they did that!

It was single yellows I was parked on...do you think I should just pay it then? I've mellowed about it now but was so annoyed because the guy was such a d***. He must have been hiding as I was literally in there for about a minute. Wouldn't mind if they policed the designated parking for Tesco properly so that we actually had somewhere to park!

OP----wish I looked that young and full of fizz!

If it's the SYL, there is nothing else leaping out which would provide a solid defence/get out. Might be best to settle at the discount.

Ok thanks Mick,

Take my medicine and learn from it. Sighs.

Cheers for your help!
