Hi All,

I am moving home around 15/Jul/2018 although the exchange will be done by 01/July/2018. My car insurance expires on 08/Jul/2018. What should I do about the insurance from 09/July/2018 - 14/Jul/2018?
Can I simply purchase / renew it based on the new address or get a temporary insurance with the old address?

Please advice.

Call the insurance company, tell them what you've told us and they will advise

I'd suggest arming yourself with some alternative quotes for the new address before having that conversation with the existing insurer.

They'll have to be dummy quotes

Insurers won't usually quote more than a month in advance

Keep a close eye on them!

I had a similar scenario where I moved days before insurance renewal. They managed to do a right royal c**k up which resulted in them cancelling the insurance (not good when you are on holiday 600 miles away, and get an email saying you're no longer insured). As ever, it was down to their systems and processes, which were unable to cope with the two events within a short space of time, and the 28p (or thereabouts) refund I got for having a slightly lower premium for a few days (which considering I moved literally just round the corner, was surprising that my new location was less risky that my old).

In the end it was OK, as a complaint to them on how they handled it resulted in a £100 cheque in my hand for the inconvenience.
