Hi all,
I've had a read through of some similar threads but couldn't quite get the answer I was looking for, so I apologise in advance for some of this being repetetive. I received a £100 and 3 points speeding fine in February this year and paid it on the 28th of February and considered the matter dealt with, but forgot to send off my licence (I was moving house so just forgot that I even needed to do it until today). I moved house in March, sent my old licence off to the DVLA to change my address in April and received a new licence, all good. Then today I received an email telling me the £100 is being refunded. I've learnt from this forum that this is done when someone doesn't send their licence in, so that all adds up, but with the email coming today some 7 months after the offence am I likely to have fallen outside of the 6 month time limit for this to go to court? I haven't had any letters about it, though I worry that any letter may have got sent to my old address in March before I changed my licence address in April. Is that unlikely with the refund only being initiated today? I appreciate it's hard to know for sure so I guess I'm just looking for any guidance on what to expect, as I'm not entirely sure how the six month time limit works. Thank you! |

All largely irrelevant to the op.
OP - call the ticket office and ask if proceedings have been commenced - if so you need to get a copy of the documents from the relevant court Call at your previous address and ask if they have, or have binned, any correspondence. Leave them a contact number in case anything else arrives in the next week or so. Remember that they may be a little ****** off with you for not getting a mail redirect. -------------------- Speeding tickets, like lottery tickets, are a voluntary tax. You don't have to get them.

Just incase anyone has this issue in the future and finds this thread, I had the following reply from the Police -
"The above matter has been given careful consideration and it has been decided on this occasion to take no further action. Therefore the payment of the Fixed Penalty is excused." |

That's a good result, not sure why they've done that as it's certainly not usual.

Is it Avon and Somerset force by any chance?
There was a speed limit incorrectly enforced as the council had not updated the TO (50 - 40 reduction) I can't remember the location now but I know someone who was caught in Feb/match time who was recently refunded the FPN |

Or it could be that they "carefully considered" that they'd messed up and forgotten to start proceedings within the 6 months.
