How do these work?...does the guy inside the van eat sandwiches and the machine does it all automatically or does he have to line up each car one at a time and measure its speed?...

On a straight road he must be seeing 100 cars minimum within the working range is he litterally doing them all one at a time?

Was doing 82 on a 70 stretch so am expecting a letter.

The working range is 1km.

Eating sandwiches is not an operational prerequisite.

The Truvelo Laser Witness Lite extends the range to 1.3km.

So there is a good chance even if you are speeding if there are 100 cars covering 3 lanes of a motorway, if the operator has to line up one car at a time he could miss you speeding especially if it is not 'obvious' speeding. If he sneezes he could miss you altogether?...

Oh well I might get lucky lets see, should have had my Waze on!...~groans~

82 on the speedo may put you just below the 79mph action threshold.

Usually they will monitor the ‘fast lane’ as that is richest pickings.

Not "obvious speeding". Is that like speeding in the middle lane? biggrin.gif

There is no preference or limitation to what lane is monitored. On a motorway overbridge ALL lanes are monitored. Why would there be any restriction.
I have never seen any operator work the way you suggest. Perhaps you were just being humorous.

What I meant is they will usually prioritise cars in the right hand lane, they are most likely to be speeding, of course they will target other lanes if they get the opportunity.

I prefer the idea of an operator keeping plugging away at the inside lane.

"Gosh, I simply don't understand why everyone is doing 56mph today!"

Of course the outside lane will mostly be the target except in light traffic even if potentially other lanes could be monitored. Fish in the smallest barrel.

Yes very possibly.

Spoke too soon and recieved a 172...the car was registered to my wife so she informed the authorities that she wasn't driving and it was me....

A week later she got the following:

"I refer to our recent communication in relation to the above numbered Notice of Intended Prosecution/Section 172 document that was issued following detection of a road traffic offence.

Enquiries have confirmed that an error has occurred in the administration process of this case.

I can confirm that the notice has been cancelled and you will not receive any further correspondence in relation to this incident.

I apologise for any inconvenience or distress this may have caused."

Is this a standard letter people get when they state they are not the driver?...or have they for some reason dropped the entire process in this case?

Will they now reach out to me direct?

EDIT: Eventually got through to them....they had problems processing the film, everything dropped...Phew...happy days.

No.

would seem the most likely answer.
