Purely out of curiosity, does anyone know what this set-up is for? Unfortunately traffic precludes stopping on a country lane to read the tiny print on the notice!

The tripod-mounted battenburged box has cameras/illuminators on both the front (as seen in the photo) and back faces, and there's an identical tripod array on the other side of the (enormous) generator.

Well that's the one, thanks. About the only problem on that road is that it has a 6'6" width restriction and large vehicles have started using it as a shortcut due to local road closures; seems like overkill for that, though.

There are a lot of machinery thefts from farms, stables etc around here - I certainly wouldn't leave such a valuable generator there for long if I were them!

It's to protect the contents of the caged area, nothing to do with the police or road usage.

Have those at all the local HS2 equipment storage areas. Announcements made in a very dodgy Irish accent! (public footpath goes right past it).

It's not the gennys the thieves go for, it's the copper cables that connect it to the grid. Dicing with death for sure.

Possibly a stupid question, but if you could connect to the grid why would you need a genny?
