So his crime was not parking closer to the camera van, not on double yellow lines, but instead parking further away?

Strange. I have at times parked (where legal) in front of a camera van to carry out some urgent task. On the off chance it is a proper copper in the van any obstruction would be incidental to my main task.

I am pretty certain if you were an unwashed protester and stood in front of a police officer who wasn't in a critical position, they would be expected to try to move once before it would be beyond reasonable doubt wilful obstruction.
