Our local Council has installed some new speed humps in a 20MPH zone.
These humps are so high that even at around 8MPH they are very uncomfortable and caused my back to jolt. Are these humps legal? Can the Council be sued if they are injured going over these humps at a lower speed? |

Well I was reading that and thinking okay, they've done it all correctly but not actually said if anyone has checked that what is in place is actually what was specified.
I suppose that is the Stage 3 Road Safety Audit? I wonder if that will be this year, next year or tomorrow never comes? We had a strange scheme when I was working in industry. Something would be specified, sizes, materials etc, then it would be built, then it would be checked. We called it Quality Control. Rather then wait for a Stage 3 audit, I would be asking for the QC or build inspection sign offs for the humps, they should be able to provide them immediately. |

The same people who complain about their houses shaking and vibrating are probably the same ones who complain about the speed of traffic and want humps installed.
I used to operate a bus route in Ashtead Surrey which had something like 73 peed humps on one road. I refused point blank to run an evening service alone g there as the same driver would have to do 3 return trips along that road in the course of the evening and I felt 73ups and 73 downs x 6 would be unreasonable on his back no matter how carefully the bus was driven, not to mention the fuel consumption and wear and tear on the steering and suspension. The bus ran along the adjacent main road instead. |

Its not a bus route, but a heavily used used route by cars, vans and lorry's. Its also near the Police Station, Fire station and a post office sorting stn.

Key to me is--do they slow emergency services? I think they do. As I've said before, I don't want to be under a defibrilator when the ambulance encounters these humps. Mick I don't know if they delay emergency services but having been in the back of an ambulance with a broken wrist I can tell you the pain going over them is considerable... from memory my observation was "why are you driving through a ****ing field?". To be fair, the suspension on most ambulances is somewhat agricultural. When maintained by a blind, drunk farmer. |
