My electricity supplier (lets call them "SSE" because that's who they are) have taken it upon themselves to register me for online billing and have sent me an email from a "no_reply@" address to inform me that as of May 1st, I will no longer be receiving paper bills. I shall of course be replying to this email stating that if they do not wish to send me paper bills, I will be quite happy not to pay them.

Surely you should write to them on paper?

I've just had a letter from my Belgian bank saying that in future I won't be able to print off statements in their branches. If I want paper statements sent by post the charge will be a horrendously excessive 5 euros a year plus postage. It makes me wonder why, in rip-off Britain BT charge £4 a month for a paper bill!

I despair over ‘no reply’ email addresses.
The onus is shoved right back onto the client to sit in a telephone queue to resolve the ‘no reply’ email whatever it is.

Or worse still, you telephone said company and are given a number of options. Then it becomes apparent none of these options actually connect you to a human, and instead give you recorded information you don’t need and hang up on you!

I have, a number of times, just replied to the no_reply address anyway and its been read and responded to, always worth it for a first go, wait a week and then follow up if you get nothing, I'd say it works about 1 time in 3.

Indeed, it's either an address that doesn't exist and will bounce or it's either monitored or not... It clearly to discourage a response.

Or it's just black-holed, without bouncing.

I've had this problem before, especially when a company provides an online account which is cut-off the moment your contract ends, but before the final bill has been settled. No obvious way to get in touch for any billing disputes other than to be on hold for hours, simple solution was to send a letter to the company's registered office. Two years later a debt collector gets in touch about supposedly unpaid bills, I provide a copy of the letter I sent explaining how I calculated the amount due (and why I disputed their figures) and ta-da, debt referred back to client and never heard form them again.

Email from a supplier refunding me twice for the same item. About £3. I replied. Email address doesn’t say no reply.
a few days later bounced back as no reply.
How much effort do I need to go to in order to inform them? Am I obliged to hang at the end of phone at my cost and time as it’s their mistake and it’s not easy to contact them?

Beware companies sending emails about forthcoming price increases, which may be hidden somewhere in the emailed bill. Virgin Media are good at this.

If they miss the money they'll ask for it. After six years you can bank it.

After reposting my email response as a general enquiry (complaints cannot be submitted online), they have resumed sending me paper bills - with wildly overestimated 'estimates' as per usual. They have also determined that I have used significantly more electricity than in the same period last year, based on their estimated reading, and are offering to help me save energy by completing a survey.

I strongly suspect that their survey will not allow free-form responses, and will not include "f**k off you condescending f**ktards" as a selectable response.

Not being funny by why on earth do you buy energy (or anything else for that matter) from a company that you hold in such low regard?
