Hi All,
The wife got a NIP - addressed to her in her maiden name, as she hasn’t gotten round to updating the V5. However, her driving license is in her new married name. She completed the NIP, and I’m pretty sure she ticked the box saying “I was driving, but my details have changed” and filled in Her new driving license details. She has now received a letter stating that they have recieved a completed NIP, however as this document was completed and signed by the alleged driver rather than the person named on the NIP, this is an invalid nomination. They now want the addressee to nominate the driver at the time of the offence. Interestingly though, this new letter is now addressed to her in her MARRIED name, rather than her maiden name which her NIP was addressed to!?!?! What’s the deal? She could send the form again and attach a copy of your marriage certificate

She could send the form again and attach a copy of your marriage certificate Rather than send the form again, I think she should reply to the letter she received, explaining what has happened, enclosing a copy of your marriage certificate and signed in both her names. She can use either name of course but it might make life easier if she changed the V5C to her married name. -------------------- |

This new form, only has an option to say “I was not driving, but here are the details of who was”.... so pretty contradictory, and even MORE inaccurate than the original NIP.

The form doesn’t have to be used. Although, it would probably be simpler to ring them up and explain...

The forms are generic and processed like a sausage machine. There's no angle to avoid the offence at this time. There is no offence at present, as the s172 nomination has been completed by the person whom the NIP was addressed to, the police just don't know that this is the case. -------------------- If you would like assistance with a penalty charge notice, please post a thread on https://www.ftla.uk/index.php
