To pass the time, I sometimes do some paid tasks; e.g. Some secret shopper, some internet reviews , some surveys, some product reviews etc.

Can be quite lucrative for a side-line, £100 for a 45m interview is probably the most I have got pro-rata. And £500 for a task that took days [ Basically cold calling estate agents and judging their responses from a check list, to short list a national paper's Estate agent of the year....]

Today I did a survey (for £8!) on what people consider when renewing car insurance. and what would be useful info.
I suspect this was user experience exercise for a price comparison website [ though I was not told specifics ]

There was a section on 'Did you know'...

Most of these tips are well known:
E.g. Adding a partner may reduce premiums. Ditto Adding an older relative (if young or new driver) etc.
Similarly Mucking around with postcode and relationship status may lose you a quote [ borderline deception ]. Job titles not so much btw.
Best time to get a quote is 20 - 26 days before policy start date. Not earlier either. This is the Goldilocks period!

Anyway I thought I'd mention a couple I didn't know.

1) Your email address can have an impact on your insurance premium.
"Some insurance companies have admitted that they may give different quotes pending on email address"

I am aware, anecdotally, that HR abhor a Hotmail address. [ Some bs about how this indicates someone who doesn't move on with technology, and probably has a BT land line and still has a British Gas account!]. But this seems strange. Someone with a perfectly "acceptable" email address , may well want to keep another dedicated email address for bills.

Perhaps the insurance company is fearing multi-applications from a single customer, all with different email addresses and a different set of circumstances (job title, postcode etc)

So john.smith@reputablecopany.com is OK, But js1234877@gmail.com is sus?

2) Providing your licence number could reduce your premiums.
"Providing such... allows insurers to double check your licence details, and convictions. Provided everything is OK, they know you are trustworthy, makes a safer applicant, hence cheaper'...

I have never been asked my driving licence details. However I'm surprised DVLA provide details to companies for insurance QUOTE reasons.

I had a Triumph Vitesse convertible. The brakes failed totally on one memorable trip. The chassis was made of chocolate. Nice straight six cylinder engine though, with overdrive gearbox.

I have the same engine and gearbox but in a GT6 body rather than a Vitesse.

The GT6 was a better bet I think. Are you running one now?

My parents had a Triumph Herald at one point - it didn't last long. Now my grandmother had a Triumph 2000 with the same straight 6 or maybe it was a 2500 version and that was a pretty good car that lasted well (while garaged every night though).

I bought it at the start of the lockdowns last Spring as a lockdown project. It's now fully ready for the road although I haven't been on a long trip yet. The furthest was about 30 miles to "Caffeine and Machine" where they invited me to park her on one of the viewing platforms. biggrin.gif
