..... When mine needed renewing my passport photo was automatically used as it had recently been renewed. I was thinking that... or if they had a recent photo on file, say if licence was changed in last few years? Mind you, one of my mates went to a photo licence when he moved house, allowed to link passport photo and that was issued on the licence. Passport was about to run out so photo was best part of 10 years old. And put onto licence that can run another 10 years. Which seems silly considering that one reason for replacement is so the photo is reasonably up to date. And that by the time he needs to change, he will be 70 sporting a 50 year old's photo. |

that doesnt make any sense as my passport picture was taken 2014 and driving was done 2 years before 2012, so its going to be so outdated

By the time your new license expires the photo will be best part of 20 years out of date. Looking at the system, it does seem that if you renew online, it will automatically use passport photo (and signature) and that if you really want a new photo, you have to renew by post and send them one. |

One of my sons recently applied to get a replacement driving licence which he had lost. It asked if he wanted to use his passport photo. He said yes. A week later the licence arrives. Surprisingly efficient. They didn't use his current passport photo, but used the one before. He's about 16 in the photo. He is 28. It looks ridiculous. He couldn't be bothered to get it changed. He lives in Australia and was over for a few weeks visit. He renewed his passport whilst out of the UK so I don't know if that made a difference in the pasport records. |

As I have to renew my licence every three years, I’m delighted that DVLA uses my passport photograph. Much easier all round.

Yep, might depend on age.
Just got my renewal bumf and they don't require a photo. Suppose an old fogey looks the same after 3 years anyway. Mick |
