I just got stopped in Lancs at an alleged 94. The officer told me I may be offered a speed awareness course or a fixed penalty. I expressed surprise that I’d qualify for a course and they told me that they’d seen people upto 96 get them. Is this likely to be true or a mistake? Licence is currently clean.

Thanks in advance.

Many police seem to downplay the likely penalty, either they don't know, are speaking about the distant past when local areas did their own thing, or more likely it avoids a confrontation at the roadside. A course might be offered up to 86 in 70 limit, these are national guidelines and rarely if ever deviated from. The cleanliness of your licence has no bearing at all. You are only just within the guideline for a fixed penalty, which is up to 95.

Thanks, I thought it might be the case that they were trying to avoid me getting annoyed, or wasting their time asking loads of questions and if it’s a fixed penalty then that’s fair enough. Really don’t want a summons. The lancs police website shows a fixed penalty upto 96, so fingers crossed.

Almost certainly a fixed penalty offer...

--------------------
RK=Registered Keeper, OP=Original Poster (You!), CoFP=Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty, NtK=Notice to Keeper, NtD=Notice to Driver
PoFA=Protection of Freedoms Act, SAC=Safety Awareness Course, NIP=Notice of Intended Prosecution, ADR=Alternative Dispute Resolution
PPC=Private Parking Company, LBCCC=Letter Before County Court Claim, PII=Personally Identifiable Information, SAR=Subject Access Request

Private Parking - remember, they just want your money and will say almost anything to get it.
