Not quite a scam, (or not yet, anyway), more a cold-call from a claims management company seeking more business.

I've had claim management companies emailing me speculatively about accidents I never had. If you haven't had an accident recently I suspect it's one of these, as Incandescent suggests.

The analytics folks are pretty good at tying data together.

I would imagine that there is somewhere you have put the number into.

You could, if you could be bothered, make a complaint to ofcom. Which will douboess go nowhere.

For some reason, the cold callers asking about my accident get all confused when I tell them it killed me.

More likely it's autodialer software just blind texting entire mobile number spaces.

They usually hang up when I ask them what they are wearing. If not, they always hang up when I ask them if they enjoy certain sexual positions.

Some people think that I make them feel stupid. To be fair, they deserve most of the credit.

Had one call at the door once who was quite disappointed that I was on crutches with a broken foot (sustained at work) but still told him I hadn't had an accident

We had a similar experience 5 years ago when we were involved in a very minor scrape. Very shortly we were inundated with these calls.

Fortunately the number they used was my mobile and so I had a record of all the calls (covering the country Shetland Islands to Cornwall numbers).

After a couple of weeks of this I emailed Ofcom and included all the phone numbers, nearly a hundred by this time.

Funnily enough over the next week they all tailed off and virtually stopped within weeks.

Coincidence ? Who knows but it was worth complaining.

By the way we still, very occasionally, get calls which we ignore if I don't recognise the place of origin as one where we have friends.

I've not tried that, I try to keep them on the line as long as I can. I've got a list of car registrations and car colour, model, etc. that I try and use to provide sufficient details to get them in a conversation but they usually smell a rat quite quickly and hang up.

I might try some lewd suggestions and heavy breathing next time.

I signed up to sipgate and got a number allocated randomly until I could transfer my old landline number over and the calls started after a few days, as I have the sip software on an android phone using the app 'Should I answer' they get blocked so it just looks like they try random numbers. Hence the pause at the start as that is their software handing the call over to their human once answered and the cause of the silent calls when no human is available.

That's not the only reason for the pause, they auto dial a number of numbers and then hand answered calls over to the next free stoker in the boiler room.
