Surely this is a dangerous parking. £100 penalty and 3 penalty points should be imposed for this van. It is dangerous blocking the junction and this road is 60mph.

Not convinced.... not even blocking sight lines for anyone joining the main and giving way as they really ought to.

There is no law against this at all. A private citizen could not park there due to section 72 of the Highways Act 1835, but that Act doesn't apply to the Crown so there's really nothing you can complaint about.

Couldn't this be caught under legislation that is relevant to leaving vehicles in dangerous positions, etc?

Rather irrelevant as no-one except you seems to think it dangerous.

In your OP you said it was "blocking the junction". It wasn't. It may have been impairing vision (a bit), but no worse than at thousands of other junctions with walls, hedges, buildings ...

In the lower image you can clearly see down the road past the van. What's the problem?

The junction it is "blocking" the view on is not even a marked road..... not sure what it is, a driveway?

The van did have some "dangerous defects" that caused it to fail its MOT last summer though wink.gif

It is the drive that leads to the back gate of Fyvie Castle.

Very unlikely to be "dangerous" if effectively blocking a private driveway, where sightlines are often limited including due to parked cars.

Growing up I lived on an A-road where, because of the design, you couldn't see the road at all in a modern car - the driveway was presumably designed many decades ago. The only way to get out was to wind down your window, listen for a gap in traffic, then put the nose of the car out into the carriageway. You got surprisingly good at judging gaps eventually but as a new driver it was a bit challenging.

With new electric cars you'd probably lose your front bumper eventually. smile.gif
