Oh dear... gone through a red light. I was reacting to the lights changing at the crossing the other side of the junction. On the video it shows the red lights in front of me, but they where blocked by the right pillar, the sun visor which I had left down and had not bothered to move back up and the rear view mirror blocking the left red lights. I made the mistake and it is what it is. There are two Redguard cameras to my left, but I did not see a flash???

If I get sent an NIP will I get an offer of an awareness course? I know I did wrong through lapse in concentration.

Given the time into red I'd say it can only be dealt with by a court. (Still 3 points if they pursue a traffic signal offence but an income related fine, costs and surcharge)

Ah, just realised you haven't got a NIP (Yet). Well you'll have to wait 14 days if you are the registered keeper.

For that duration of red, unlikely.

Don't red light cameras work only when you are moving and then stop, not from stationary (jumping the lights before they turn green?)

They work both ways. They detect movement over the line during the red phase.

What's done is done. Wait and see if you receive a NIP.

I am trying to convince myself the cameras where switched off as I can not see evidence of a flash. I have seen these flashes go off for others and are quite noticeable. It is a mistake I made and will make me a better and more alert driver but could do with out a bad start to next year....

If you are the registered keeper you will know within 14 days if you were caught, this applies even over the Christmas period. There is no sign of a flash on the video, so you may be lucky.

I would add that some might argue that a driver who intentionally jumps the lights is at least taking a calculated risk, while someone who is entirely oblivious to the fact that the lights are red might pose a greater risk to other road users. Not that the prosecution needs to show any danger at all in any event.

A1 Great North Way, junction with Finchley Lane/Hendon lane. Lucky not to get broadsided there.

https://www.google.com/maps/@51.5909211,-0....6384!8i8192

I think you would have observed a flash epecially at night if active so just put it to one side and enjoy xmas/new year for now.

I often see people jumping lights at a camera controlled junction near me in Hackney and sometimes there's a flash and sometimes not - there doesn't seem to be any logic.

Yeah absolutely very lucky indeed. That's one very busy junction.
However the 2 sets of lights there can be confusing at night particularly

From the dash cam video, I couldn't see any flash that surely you'd notice reflected from the road signs if it had happened.

If you watch the video you can see I did not drive forward straight away. I thought the cars crossing where the last to go across and the lights had changed for them to red. I did not race off blindly. Surely those green lights on the other side should be filtered to prevent this.

I can see how easily it was done...

This is a fair point, maybe write to the highway authority to point this out (after the 14 days are up of course)

UPDATE. Had no NIP in the post. More than the 14 days have passed. Seems to be a camera inactive or operating differently to how you would expect? Lesson learnt anyway.

Not an inactive camera, more likely a box with no camera. Most forces have many more housings than cameras, so most of the time the box is just a deterrent or somewhere for a pedestrian to keep slightly dryer when it's raining.

I must admit to being confused. If you had no sight of the nearest red lights and went on the green that you could see, why did you review the dashcam video. There would be no reason to do so.
