Cyclist headbutts pedestrian Options

Caught on video in City of London.

Police are hunting a cyclist who headbutted a man to the ground after a near-miss on a pedestrian crossing.

The cyclist ran a red light in Farringdon Street in the City of London at around 1.45pm on 22 August, narrowly avoiding hitting the pedestrian who was crossing the road.

He then got off his bike, went back towards the businessman and headbutted him in the face, calmly cycling away as his victim lay sprawled on the pavement.

Cue apologist posts asserting that:

a) It was the pedestrian's fault for crossing without looking out for bikes steaming through the lights, or;
b) Many more people are headbutted by people who drive cars.

Well I can't see them, but yes I see the 'green man' is lit so they should be red. I wasn't trying to say the ped' was at fault but I missed the green man first time round.

A cyclist on the pavement nearly cycled into me the other day.
I remarked ‘oi!’.
He asked ‘what’s your problem!’
I replied ‘how long have you got?’
He told he would see me next Tuesday. Well here we are. It is Tuesday but no sign of him. And I had gone to the trouble of writing a list!

Logically pedestrians would also require them as well then....... you know acting like idiots and thugs as well.

That isn't the point as you clearly know. If they refuse to obey the rules of the road and run red lights then they should be accountable the same as motorised vehicles. Afterall with the amount of dashcamming vigilante cyclists trying to uphold the law they should also face consequences for not abiding to it. (This isn't to say all cyclists or all motorists commit offences)

I think it is the point, pedestrians frequently flout the rules of the road and hit each other, so on the basis cyclists should have number plates, so should pedestrians, it makes no less (or more) sense.

Cyclists use the road for transport and millions of pound has been spent on cycle lanes that they opt not to use and instead weave in and out of traffic and then complain when a hgv truck fails to spot them. They should at the least have to pay road tax. (Again not all cyclists)

Pedestrians dont need reg plates because they can not run a red light. Cyclists use the roads the same as motor vehicles. Pedestrians do not. The video clearly shows a hit and run which occured due to the cyclist using the road for transport incorrectly (the same as motor vehicles).

Your point appears to be that because pedestrians can’t be fitted with number plates neither should cyclists. Unless you’re actually arguing for pedestrians to be fitted with number plates...?

One disappointing thing is that the passers by didnt help the cycist on his way on a unicycle

Shame the bike wasn't lying on its other side so that it could be disabled by a quick stamp to the gear set

Note to self: if in a similar situation to the pedestrian, yank the handlebar sharply to one side

Logic? Facts come first.
Aren’t cycles a vehicle of some type?
Pedestrians aren’t.
Sometimes my walking stick can get very close to a pavement cyclist’s vehicles spokes. Ain’t my fault I wobble a bit sometimes too.

No the point I was trying to make is that any plan to fit plates to cycles (which is nonsensical with a small amount of applied thought), makes no less sense than suggesting fitting them to pedestrians given they are road users and get involved in altercations. If the cyclist had been a jogger would people say all joggers should have plates?
