Hi,
I've tried to pay a PCN with National Parking Enforcement Ltd for a ticket I received in Edinburgh.
Although I didn't see signs for private parking in the area I parked, some of the surrounding areas were clearly marked so I probably shouldn't have risked it.
I'm not familiar with this kind of thing as we pretty much have no parking charges where I'm from.

I tried to pay online (parkingprotection.co.uk) but my details couldn't be located. I tried the same by phone but the automated service said the same thing.
I then emailed and was told the same, and to make sure I've contacted the correct company (which I have as I went through the website listed on the ticket).

What should I do??

Stop attempting to pay or contact them.

For starters in Scotland there's no keeper liability - but you may have already compromised yourself?

--------------------
RK=Registered Keeper, OP=Original Poster (You!), CoFP=Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty, NtK=Notice to Keeper, NtD=Notice to Driver
PoFA=Protection of Freedoms Act, SAC=Safety Awareness Course, NIP=Notice of Intended Prosecution, ADR=Alternative Dispute Resolution
PPC=Private Parking Company, LBCCC=Letter Before County Court Claim, PII=Personally Identifiable Information, SAR=Subject Access Request

Private Parking - remember, they just want your money and will say almost anything to get it.

Why would ANYONE pay one of these, especially in Scotland?!

Please stop taking the bait.

Learn to spot a scam when you see one! Certainly no phoning them blabbing about who the driver was, OMG no.

eh ok, as I said I'm not at all familiar with private parking charges as we don't have them at home.
Is this not legitimate? and what difference does being in Scotland have to do with it?

Are you saying I just ignore it and they won't get in touch with me?

I never said they won't get in touch. Yes of course you ignore it unless they try a claim in the courts (still very rare in Scotland and mainly aimed at idiots who blab about being the driver).

Being in Scotland means as registered keeper, they CANNOT hold you liable, because Scotland did not enact the POFA 2012, where Schedule 4 stitched us up South of the border.

As I said, we don't have private parking charges back home so I don't really get it, why would they give a ticket if there's no way for me to pay it and as keeper I'm not liable,
how does that benefit them?

Because people assume they are legitimate, or are fooled into thinking theyre similar to fines (they are not!) when in fact they are merely invoices. Nothing more.
