Put here because I'm unsure where else it should go....
I had recently been consulting at Hilmore House, which is the HQ of Wm. Morrisons and had a wonderfully enlightening conversation with their Estates Manager as part of this. Naturally car parking came up.... 1. Morrisons own almost every industriual estate - in entirity - that their stores and associated stores stand on. 2. They are.... unhappy... with their current contract with ParkingEye and would like to ditch it. 3. Morrisons have not given standing to PE to sue in their or Morrisons names for damages 4. Store managers are under instructions to cancel if the person complaining is a regular or proven customer - if that doesnt work then a stiffly worded note to Gain Lain, Bardford would probably pay dividends... So make of that what you will. I hope people find it useful. It is likely I will be going back so if there is anything else that you think I could usefully be asking... let us know. |

Maybe suggest they ditch parking controls completely and let individual managers report back if they think they have a concern that actually warrants the downsides of hosting a veracious parasite. Its like having tapeworm and not taking any medicine!
Or maybe suggest the LIDL/Athena model where the PPC has no incentive to be a veracious parasite and the landowner actually takes some money in rather than feeding the parasite to excess? They seem to be shifting from PE to ECP. Out of the frying pan ...... and that's on sites that appear to have no serious parking problems whatsoever. Previously, always plenty of empty spaces in the now newly parasite-infested sites I've visited that have subsequently been swarmed over by ECP. Their bright yellow signage, strapped on almost every available lamp post, is an assault on the eyes. It seems like having a PPC is a now 'must have' for supermarkets. You'd think they'd want to stand apart in the chase for market leadership and find much more innovative ways of not hissing off their customers!
While Ms are keen not to have their car parks abused, they seem less than concerned about their customers being abused by a toxic third party. And just as they were rising from the near-ashes of potential wipe-out a couple of years back ....l This post has been edited by Umkomaas: Wed, 20 Feb 2019 - 21:53 |

Well that might explain the situation at my local Morrisons - one entrance/exit covered by PEs cameras, the other one (of more recent construction) no coverage at all!

And just as they were rising from the near-ashes of potential wipe-out a couple of years back ....l They obviously still think that punters will blame the PPC rather than them! |
