I was driving on the M62 and the variable speed limit cameras were saying 60 mph. I slowed to 60 and continued to drive. Then I saw the variable speed limit signs ahead which said "60" turn off. I waited a minute or so then sped back up to 70, assuming that they had been turned off for a reason. Around a minute later, having travelled around 2 miles the variable speed limit sign then said national speed limit.
Does this mean I had been speeding for a number of miles and am going to get tickets?

Did you commit an offence, yes.

Will you get a ‘ticket’, no, the cameras are on gantries and enforce the limit signed on the gantry, if you didn’t go under a gantry exceeding the displayed limit then no camera will have photographed you.

Your post will likely Be moved to the flame pit as it’s not a ‘case’. Mod’s will move it back should it ever become one.

Yes you were speeding, no you probably won't get a ticket. For future reference, the lower limit is in force until you pass a national speed limit sign or an "end of variable speed limit" sign.

Wish someone would tell the bu55ers who set the matrix signs on the M6 through Birmingham....
Last Monday about midday.
Approaching J7..... 50
Past J7...blank
Approaching J8....40
J8 to J9.....50
J9 60
Next gantry blank until past J10....when 60 appeared again.
Then similar coming back.... reduced speed in force to J7, then blank to a mile away from J6, then 40.
Not one NSL sign to be seen.

In theory. Doesn't work in reality. I've done journeys on the M25 where the limits were all over the place, with blank signs for miles after lower limits. Only on Monday, I passed under a 60 limit, and as I was approaching the next one which was displaying NSL, it went blank before I passed it. According to your theory, the 60 limit still applied. No doubt the 60 behind me cleared (or went to NSL), so the next one was blanked. They really should leave the NSL displayed for a reasonable period after the lower limit is lifted to ensure all traffic gets an official NSL display.

Well it may be that Highways England was in breach of regulation 15 of The Secretary of State’s Traffic Orders (Procedure) (England and Wales) Regulations 1990, again the recourse here is to complaint to Highways England.
