Hi
Wonder if anyone can give me any advice for my nephew not got full details he was caught speeding 40 miles in 30 zone. He moved house and forgot to notify the dvla so the letter went to old address and then to court and he has been fined 1000 when they then mysteriously found his address. As he got any chance of getting the fine dropped to the initial 100 fine. |

Yes, plenty of similar cases on here, he needs to perform a statutory declaration, see the post below with ‘Marston’ in the title and it walks through a similar case.

when they then mysteriously found his address. Nothing mysterious. The police used the address held by DVLA at the time of the offence. This is where all the letters went. They don't know whether he has moved, or whether he chose to ignore them - he has that right. But they do know the address used should be correct since your son has a legal obligation to keep his V5C up to date at an address where he can be contacted. The fact the he didn't update his documents nor employ mail forwarding is of no concern to anyone but him. Once the court proceedings are over, the authorities can choose to start trying to find him, like checking other records like the insurance database etc. -------------------- |

Perhaps in the future they will simply poll the relevant microchip implanted under the person's skin and find him that way? --Churchmouse |

Some people think that I make them feel stupid. To be fair, they deserve most of the credit. |
