Hi All,
New here, thanks for having me. I recently bought a car from a so called trader that was just a conman. He was pretending to work from a business park he doesn't even have a business in. Long story short I bought the car and he wouldn't take my name and address details but said to send him a Facebook message with them and he'll update the V5 online. Car broke down on the way home and he wouldn't answer my calls, got it towed to a garage where it sat for a week while I tried to get him to reply to me. He blocked me on Facebook so I sent away the new keepers slip with a note to say seller refused to take my details. After a bit of back and forth and other people involved the seller decided to give me a full refund plus extra costs I'd paid out and take the car away. I got him to sign a statement to say I'd received a refund and he took possession of the car but he still wouldn't fill in his address details so I can change them back to him when I receive the new V5. What do I do in this situation? Thanks |

write a letter to DVLA explaining what's happened, at least if anything comes of it there will be a record.

This happens, DVLA will mark it as no known keeper and that will set a marker on the PNC lighting up the ANPR camera displays on every pass.

Do the DVLA let you know that it is put down as no keeper if they do that? |

I don't know but I'd except you'd get an acknowledgment of some description or another. If you've not heard back in 4 weeks, call and ask.

Got a letter today from DVLA letting me know they had received the new keepers slip and form to put it into my name and I should receive the new V5 around 20th February. That's taken a couple of weeks so no doubt they'll get around to the letter I sent them explaining what's happened before they send the new V5 to me.
Just a waiting game now to see what happens next. |
