On a local A-road there is a section of 5 to 6 miles in length with Vector average speed cameras monitoring a 50mph limit. The camera are on gantries that are between half a mile and a mile apart, 7 gantries in total.

If a driver were to average 60mph between, say, 4 consecutive gantries consecutively on the same journey, would that be treated as three separate offences (i.e. exceeding 50mph between gantries 1 & 2, gantries 2 & 3 and 3 & 4) or as a single continuous offence?

I've no concerns myself, I just take that route frequently and have pondered the question for a while.

Treated as by who?

Some people think that I make them feel stupid. To be fair, they deserve most of the credit.

The relevant SCP / police force.

With whom a court may disagree.

A SCP will prosecute as many charges as possible. It would be up to you to convince a court that it is a continuous offence.

From what I have read previously, SPECS cameras aren't necessarily paired in that fashion. Over long sections it is just as likely to be 1-3, 4-7 than it is 1-2, 2-3, etc.

I'm not sure that's true. There are many sections where there are a number of cameras, we've never seen a case as far as I know where someone was prosecuted for each pair of cameras along the section.
