I attend a college that requires you to sign up for parking registration in order to use their tiny car park. Earlier this year in April I signed up and was told this lasted a year, wasn’t told that it was just the academic year. Consequently, on October 24th I got a letter through the post saying I now needed to pay £100 for parking there, what’s weird is I had done so everyday from September 5th onwards to that point and no fines from any of those days? That day I immediately re-registered just in case and ignored the letter. Fast forward to now and I have another letter saying I need to pay “now”. The appeal section says I can go through theIAS.org whoever that is. Can I go to the college that own the land and get them to cancel it? Do I just ignore future letters? And finally, should I actually pay? Any help would be very much appreciated, I don’t know how much time I have as the letter came in today’s post, thanks.

@ManxRed, no the college essentially don’t care, they say they can’t do anything and that’s that.
@Jlc Court would be the last thing I want I’d rather settle outside of it if they set a date @Redivi I’ve been told DRP can’t do anything like take you to court and yes I believe they get the £60 they added if it does go there, just don’t want the stress of a court date on top of A levels |

I don't think there's much you can do other than hold on to the thought that you know 100% that they've lied to you. -------------------- Sometimes I use big words I don't understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

They said it’s an external company that they hire and have no control over them, you reckon I can pressure them about it?

THEY HIRED THEM Therefore THEY are the ones that should be telling the company what to do! If you hire a painter and hes painting a colour you dont like, do you shrug your shoulders and assume nothing can be done, or you TELL them what to do? |

Do you have that statement about them being an external company written down/as an email?

No student union, it’s just a college, nothing too large scale.
I’ll speak to someone on Monday again about if they can try to do something because that painter analogy makes a lot of sense thank you. No it was verbal communication sorry. |

Try emailing as high up the college food chain as you can (is there such a thing as a college principal? - sorry I'm years out of the loop on educational hierarchy). Then at least you have written evidence, not "he said, she said". Nobody can later claim that you misheard, misunderstood or flat out deny they said it. |

Thank you, what would I say? I was thinking something along the lines of I have received 2 tickets from the college carpark and then try explain i was misinformed about the duration of my permit and can they do anything to cancel it. Surely the fact that I do actually attend the college counts for something and i wasn’t just trying to lazily park somewhere I shouldn’t have?

You should point out to them that they are the Principal in a Principal/Agency contractual relationship. As such, they are vicariously liable for the actions of their agent, who are carrying out tasks and duties ON BEHALF OF the principal. This includes being potentially sued for damages for actions the Agent carries out on their behalf.
If they have NO control over their Agent, then what the Hell is going on? And who performed the due diligence and agreed to sign a contract with a third party that allows them to go around doing what the Hell they like? It's nonsense! -------------------- Sometimes I use big words I don't understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.
