With the new speeding guidelines coming in on Monday, I thought it was only the fines that were going to be increased. But it seems that the threshold of some of the speed limits are changing as well.

Am I right in saying at the moment the threshold for getting 3 points and a fine on a motorway is 95mph, and anything above that you take a trip to court? With the new guidelines it states that anything over 90mph you are no longer eligible for a fixed penalty.

Yes.

For clarity, it is the MAGISTRATES sentencing guidelines that have changed.

Most people caught speeding never go near court, and therefore it is ACPO guidelines and fixed penalty tariffs they need to be concerned with

ACPO guidelines have not changed. Much of the media seem to be incorrectly conflating it with mobile phone fixed penalties, which have recently increased.

There are so many errors creeping in to the media reports....

Many as you say mention 6pts and £200 fine, I've also seen a few where they use the speed offsets at 20 and apply through the rest so the harshest penalty is listed as 91mph+ not 101mph+!

I guess the simple message of 'harsher' speeding fines may encourage some to slow down.

......Nah

The whole "you can be fined up to 150% of your weekly earnings" thing, is that for high speed offences or just for sneaking slightly above 30? These new rules just seem like a money making thing to me, everyone is going to be looking at their speedo so much more crashes will probably happen

Fixed penalties remain, with quite generous (imho) thresholds.

If people need to be looking at their speedo's all the time then they shouldn't be on the road. It's easy to keep within the limit (or indeed within enforcement thresholds) and such arguments are weak.
