In October 2018 I parked in a “executive only” area of my workplace car park at a university. Building work on the site had restricted the available of spaces and there was nowhere else to go.

Although I am a senior member of staff I can’t claim to be a member of the executive team but I had very occasionally parked there previously in similar circumstances and received a sympathetic response from the exec team assistant. The solitary parking warden took a different stance and ticketed me.

I had paid for an annual permit to park on the site but apparently not allowed to park in the only remaining spaces on the site. Nearest equivalent is moving into first class compartment on a train when second class is overcrowded.

District Enforcement (who lost the contract in September 2019) have now instructed Gladstone Solicitors to chase me down - their charge has now risen to £130. I have presented my arguments but they intend to pursue court action which I will defend if necessary.

Any advice welcome.

I was issued with a parking charge in October 2018 for a car left in an “executive only” area of a work place car park. The car displayed a legitimate paid-for annual pass but extensive building work on the site meant the executive area was the only area with spare places.
After challenging the notice (thanks to advice on this site) in March 2020 I heard nothing until last week when presented with a Letter Before Claim from Gladstone’s, who had apparently overlooked my response 12 months ago.
I have asked them to provide an example of an ‘executive “ parking pass but they have just referred to a sign erected in the executive area. There was no such signage at the entrance
The parking contractors have subsequently lost the contract for the site and Gladstone’s are now chasing me on their behalf.
Any constructive comments welcome.
