I was stopped by the police for speeding. They said I was driving at 48mph on a 30mph road, however I had just come off a roundabout and was about to come onto a motorway and they stopped me in the middle of a short road. I know I was not driving this fast and if they stopped me in the middle of the road without going past them, how would they know how fast I was going? They issued me with 3 point on my licesence and a £100 fine. I feel as though this is unjustified as I was not driving as fast as they said and it was the first time I have ever been stopped by the police. I am not sure how to go about appealing this ticket.

Have you read the ticket? They generally have details of how to "appeal" on them. However, if on reflection you were in fact speeding (by any appreciable amount) then think long and hard about doing so. Go to court and lose and not only will the fine be bigger but you will also be ordered to pay a surcharge of 10% of the fine and costs (normally of £620 after a contested trial).

Sounds like you’ve accepted a fixed penalty?
When did this all happen as you may no longer have any ‘appeal’ angles. -------------------- RK=Registered Keeper, OP=Original Poster (You!), CoFP=Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty, NtK=Notice to Keeper, NtD=Notice to Driver
PoFA=Protection of Freedoms Act, SAC=Safety Awareness Course, NIP=Notice of Intended Prosecution, ADR=Alternative Dispute Resolution PPC=Private Parking Company, LBCCC=Letter Before County Court Claim, PII=Personally Identifiable Information, SAR=Subject Access Request Private Parking - remember, they just want your money and will say almost anything to get it. |

They said I was driving at 48mph on a 30mph road … I know I was not driving this fast So how fast do you think you were going? If the police thought you were doing 48, you'd be hard pushed to claim you were actually doing less than 30. And anything over 30 is strictly an offence, and course aside, what you have been offered is the minimum penalty that you can expect for the offence. As Southpaw says, think hard as to whether you can really claim you were not speeding at all. |

Why do you feel you would have to drive past them for them to record your speed? No radar tech used there. Using a laser they can record your speed from half a mile away (slowing down at the last minute as you pass them is pointless) |
