Not sure if folks here can assist, but I will ask.

I have a Nextbase 312GW, which worked fine in a Seat Ibiza, from the cig lighter. Then last year I bought a Focus. Now I have transferred the dashcam over, and it only comes on for a few seconds before switching itself off. I thought it was possibly the internal battery, but that is apparently only a back-up in case of power cutting out from a crash, for example.

Transferred it back to the Ibiza (still have it), and it works fine. Also works fine in my dad's Kia Rio. All via the cig lighter.

It would appear to me that the power available is insufficient in the Focus to run it, but I assumed all cig lighter sockets would be the same 12v, any thoughts? I don't want to buy another dashcam if it too will not work

QUOTE (cymromon @ Thu, 17 Dec 2020 - 00:57) *
65 reg Oct 15, TDCi 1.5l, and yes, whilst driving

so would have been built within a few weeks (or days) of mine which was registered 30Sep15 which makes any difference to the socket and wiring very unlikely - mine is the 1.0l 125ps petrol but I think that difference is unlikely to be an issue.

Find it very odd it switches off quicker when in bright sunlight - heat or light causing the difference? Try it at night and shine a LED torch at it and see if it turns off quicker.

With regard to there being no lighter with the car, mine was second hand and didn't have one either - don't think the car came with one new as there is flip cover over the socket

Don't suppose you are anywhere next the Uxbridge area in West London? If so you could try your camera in my Focus to see what happens (the 312GW and 412GW are shown as using the same mount).

I have found that the supplied power lead for the NBDVR312GW is quite bulky and the contacts stiff and unforgiving. This means that in some sockets it just doesn't maintain good contact. In hot conditions this might even be worse. If you press and hold the plug firmly into the socket, does it stay on for longer?

No longer that way I'm afraid. I've found a USB to Mini USB lead at home, so I will try it with one of the USB ports on the car tomorrow, bypassing the 12v socket. The blue/red light in the bottom remains lit, and the 'low battery' band doesn't show, implying that it is getting power. As I say, I think the simplest thing is to get a cheap one for the Focus, see what happens, and keep the NB in the Seat.

And thanks for the offer Mark, but I'm in... North Wales icon_cry.gif

You haven't got it on eco mode, have you? My nextbase dashcam turns itself off if the engine goes off on my Focus.

On my old Focus it remained on until I unplugged it.
