Hi folks! my first ever post. I work for the NHS and on my off day went to Manchester civil court for family advice( divorce matter). drove from Oldham not familiar with Manchester except way to north Manchester hospital. I usually go by tram but went by car and as i am unfamiliar with the area gota PCN for apparently driving in the Portland bus gate area clearly with signs. Unfortunately it was raining and i was also following satnav. However kindly note I did reverse soon after reaching right upto the sign and took a right turn.
I shall post some photos of my PCN.Any chance I could appeal it? I am part time would help to avoid paying it if possible. I have read this area is notorious for cars getting confused so feel a bit less embarrassed. I do admit I should've realised early and not after reaching the sign. Question do I have grounds for appeal and what? Can i say I reversed and turned right or would they just laugh at me? Should I fight or just pay the fine. I know council rarely listen to appeals and don't make exceptions unless you get blessing of an adjudicator which I feel is unlikely as i read a similar thread. I really appreciate advice really depressed but worse than can happen i will have to pay 30. I surely have learnt my lesson from this to watch out for signs. I would appreciate if they were no negative comments please I have learnt my lesson a and admit I was at fault. I am positive that i reversed slightly and turned right where i should've turned. £30 may seem a lot, but it's double in London ! Manchester today is a real maze of traps for the motorist designed to keep you out. Stick to the tram if you possibly can. If the video shows minimal intrusion you might get a positive result at the Traffic Penalty Tribunal, but its not guaranteed, and you'd have to risk the full PCN £60. When we see the video, better advice can be given.

The signage at that bus gate has been the subject of a site visit by the adjudicators and found to be compliant so lets see the video and ALL of the PCN except personal details to see if there is a technical argument

Thanks everyone. I have viewed my video after googling and finding viewmypcn website. Unfortunately I have driven through so don’t stand a chance.
I shall have to pay but I have learnt about busgates only thought there were bus lanes. Although on the PCN it says bus lane contravention maybe in a way it’s both. I don’t know how I managed to do that but lesson learnt for the future. |
