I got a NIP through the post for 47 in a 40 - dual carriageway, just coming off 70 limit A14. Bit irritating but it seems I will have to suck it up.
Does anyone know if Northants Police offer speed awareness?

Yes. All English forces offer speed awareness courses as long as the speed is no higher than 10%+9 and you haven't done one within the last 3 years.

Can I take a Speed Awareness Course (SAC) instead of a fine or penalty points?

In all likelihood, yes - they are available to drivers exceeding the speed limit up to 42mph in a 30mph limit, up to 53mph in a 40mph limit, up to 64mph in a 50mph limit, up to 75mph in a 60mph limit, and up to 86mph in a 70mph limit who have not already attended nor are currently waiting to attend a national course for a previous offence within the last three years. The course must be completed within five months of offence.

Actually the condition is that you have not done one for an offence within 3 years prior to the current offence

Thanks for the replies. looks like I am bang to rights and hopefully will get a course.
Interestingly, the letter they sent provides no information about what to do with the form, where to return it etc. It merely says you must complete it. I may be being pedantic but for a legal letter surely they must provide clear instructions as to how to return and to where?

Well presumably it has an address on it somewhere, in which case common sense says back to that.

It is not a legal letter, the whole business of courses is not on a legal basis other than the discretion of a police constable whather or not to take action in relation to an offence, as long as you successfully complete the course they will take no action. But complain about their letter and they wil very likely withdraw the offer and take some legal action!
