Have a guess. The lack of people using this jape might give you a clue...

Some councils have clauses in their traffic orders saying only one ticket can be displayed.
Most have a clause requiring clear display.
Runs foul of both of those.

I would say many councils do so.

Also unless you're unemployed, I doubt the time money potentially saved would warrant the time wasted. If you're so skint that you can't afford a few quid for parking, take the bus.

Kin hell CP it cost more to take the bus than to drive and that includes the parking if its driver and one passenger. And parking is cheap where I live

Well if you work out the cost per mile including tax, servicing, MOT & insurance public transport may not be the most expensive option. And if parking is cheap, you wouldn't resort to this sort of "tactic", if we can call it that.

Of course, in any case the Queen graciously provides pavements and veges open to pedestrians on most roads wink.gif

Tax, servicing, MOT & insurance are all fixed costs whether the car is used or not. Unless you are proposing totally giving up the car & only using public transport then it's only consumables like fuel & oil plus wear & tear plus depreciation that need to be considered.

My partner doesn't drive so her return bus journey to work costs £7 for about 10 miles each way i.e. 35p/mile. For my similar car journey in a car that uses super unleaded & does 40mpg it costs about 70p plus my car parking costs 99p i.e. just under 8.5p/mile.

Where are you buying your fuel at £1.40 a gallon?

At £1.40 a litre it is costing you nearer 21p a mile, which is still miles cheaper. wink.gif

All I'm saying is that if you're so skint you need to resort to the trick suggested in the opening post to get round paying for the pay & display, you probably can't afford to drive.

Egg on face smile.gif That will teach me to do the calculation in my head while replying to the thread on my phone. It is of course £1.40/L. An easier approximation is that the Smart actually does 40-45mpg thus 10miles/L or 14p/mile so my commute costs me about £3.80 or 19p/mile or a little over half what it costs my partner by public transport.
