interesting article from the law commission about liability of drivers and classification of "driverless cars" here
no driver responsibility for speeding or running a red light. lots of pressure on system manufacturers. in the event of failure and law suits what happens in the manufacturers fold? Will they hold back now from fully driverless? This post has been edited by mickR: Wed, 26 Jan 2022 - 09:30 |

Well as someone has to be liable, then it has to be one or the other. If a car is truly driverless (so nothing on the UK streets but some on road testing happening mostly in the US and China) then the only entity that can be liable is the system manufacturer. Which will inevitably mean some changes to cost structure for them to 'self insure'.
As an example, Tesla was selling 'full self driving' at one point for $6000 (now $12000), that feature stays with the car, so they could have potential exposure to 15-20 years of traffic offences. Not that I think Tesla are ever going to actually deliver, it's just Muskian hot air. -------------------- There is no such thing as a law abiding motorist, just those who have been scammed and those yet to be scammed!
