Hi All,
Was driving recently and was stopped for no numberplate, (although you could quite clearly see where it had been stuck on, was a hot day and it must have fallen off while driving, I still had all the tape on the bumper) I was given a yellow NIP slip, although I understand this offence is non-endorsable. Yesterday I had the letter come through the post, £100 fine to be paid within 28 Days However, the registration number written on the form is wrong, its close but its wrong, My plate is J7*** The letter is JZ*** Offence Code VE94148 Should I just pay it or as the plate is wrong is there anything I can do? Thanks, Jack |

Pay it or let it go to court. The latter will almost cost you more as what is written on the piece of paper you have will be irrelevant at court.

this doesn't give you a defence. -------------------- RK=Registered Keeper, OP=Original Poster (You!), CoFP=Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty, NtK=Notice to Keeper, NtD=Notice to Driver
PoFA=Protection of Freedoms Act, SAC=Safety Awareness Course, NIP=Notice of Intended Prosecution, ADR=Alternative Dispute Resolution PPC=Private Parking Company, LBCCC=Letter Before County Court Claim, PII=Personally Identifiable Information, SAR=Subject Access Request Private Parking - remember, they just want your money and will say almost anything to get it. |

So I suppose the Cop putting a word in the OP's ear and telling him to get it sorted and use number plate screws this time would have been out of place ?

So I suppose the Cop putting a word in the OP's ear and telling him to get it sorted and use number plate screws this time would have been out of place ? Isn't this the sort of situation where a 7 day producer and a tick in a box from a MOT station would be more appropriate? Or don't they do that anymore, I remember my dad getting one once for a brake light bulb being out. |

Either of those courses of action may have been preferable, but that's not the way they've chosen to deal with it, so that's that.

As Fredd notes its at the officers discretion, they may have felt they were being 'spun a yarn' and opted for this approach.
