This may seem an odd request but there are some sensible (and logical) people on this forum so I'm hoping that this thread could help people see the parking problem from an opposite point of view and help find a solution.
We have a business centre which has an adequate number of parking spaces for the number of tenants that use the building. But it's only 200 yards from a main highway between two cities. We have a constant battle with people who think it's ok to leave their cars in our car park and travel to the cities in colleagues' cars. We don't want to involve the parking enforcement companies because of all the horror stories on here that I'm sure our tenants or their customers would get caught by on a regular basis. Any suggestions from members as to how we can persuade people who have no business here to park elsewhere would be very welcome. Thanks Mike |

Well one option is the Lidl model, the parking company gets a fixed fee for processing cases, the landholder gets the profit but accepts that in some cases they’ll pay the fee when cancelling tickets.
The other option is a barrier and fob system. -------------------- There is no such thing as a law abiding motorist, just those who have been scammed and those yet to be scammed!

That Lidl model is worth thinking about but there's a complication - there's a restaurant in our building and people will stop coming if they have to go through a barrier and then reclaim in the restaurant. Mind you they probably drive off at the moment because they can't find a parking space. The other option is a barrier and fob system. Mike |

That Lidl model is worth thinking about but there's a complication - there's a restaurant in our building So the restaurant operate a 'white list' for customers, you come to an agreement on who bears the cancellation charges for their customers who fail to register but they want to come again. The operating cost per ticket would be quite small anyway, circa £10. Athena do the leg work for Lidl and are certainly one of the less venal and rapacious of the PPC's. One option is to make up your own PPC style signs, never actually DO anything, but maybe the threat would be enough! I worry that PPC style signs just send such an unwelcoming message. I have to fight to stop our admin people covering the place with signs about what you can't do on our premises (not just parking related :-) ) I'm wondering about putting up some signs that explain our problem in simple english and appealing to people's better nature. Probably a lot of people will think it's local authority owned (and therefore they part own it themselves ) What do people think? How would you react to a 'pleading' sign rather than a threatening one. The sign would have to be very concise. Something like 'Please don't park here if you aren't coming to visit us' or 'We have very limited parking, please don't park here and go off in a colleague's car.' Mike |
