I am a UK driver license holder but no longer resident in the UK. During a recent visit to the UK, I received a speeding fine while driving a relative's car in which I was fully insured.
The letter to RK is asking for the driver's details and address which I am happy to provide as the offender. The issue I face is my license had expired during the pandemic and I had not realised this until it came to this letter. As my license number is the one I was insured with, I feel that is the appropriate detail to provide however I don't know the consequence of this. Would someone with knowledge of this particular situation be able to shed some light here? Alternatively, I can supply the details of the driver's license that I hold in the country I currently reside in (non EU country) however I suspect that would not help as I the insurance doesn't have knowledge of it. What would be the appropriate response to the letter and the consequences I face? Thank you for your help. This post has been edited by bourneagain: Wed, 1 Sep 2021 - 11:29 |

If I were OP. I would be mortified that I had put the RK in this position,
(which includes S172; and permitting someone to drive uninsured with no valid licence...) and would to do as much as possible to extradite RK from any jeopardy. QUOTE i'd rather not get a phone call, do we know if the RK is required to provide a contact number? Why ever not? The RK needs to reply again. Giving as much information about OP as possible. Using a covering letter if necessary. Giving your name, address, phone number, email address, work address, work phone, PO box if travelling etc. Throw the book at it. Keeping a copy of the form / letter. Who was nominated according to the Police letter? Was it another foreign address? As it looks like the police are now also looking for evidence that OP was insured, given a foreign address. [Unless that's on the template letter]. So that's another can of worms... I suggest (as above) the RK goes back with all your details, pointing out the address the police quoted back was wrong. also they should include the insurance policy / cover note showing they had specifically added the OP to the insurance.
I don’t know your precise circumstances, but just because you are not currently living in the UK doesn’t mean you aren’t a resident and I doubt the police will look into it any further if the RK replies as above. Also if I were you I’d be contacting the police/camera partnership directly and offering my details to ensure my friend wasn’t inconvenienced any more than they already have been. |

(which includes S172; and permitting someone to drive uninsured with no valid licence...) HE HAD A VALID LICENCE - How many times? The RK was responsible for the insurance (which he may or may not have been) so hardly the OP's fault. -------------------- There is no such thing as a law abiding motorist, just those who have been scammed and those yet to be scammed!
