Firstly, if there's a more appropriate forum to post generic questions about using the site, then apologies, but I've not been able to find it.

Ditto if there's a 'help' task ID I could have PM'd.

I wanted to find recent posts which talk about IAS, so I did this:

but that returned me this:

which isn't right.

If I use the search box at the top right of the home page, or a forum page:

I get thousands of hits:

But none of them show a date, I can't sort by date, and for added annoyance they are all links to lo-fi versions of the posts.

What am I doing wrong? How should I be searching?

Off the top of my head -
The site's internal search tool (first one you tried) requires more than 3 characters.
The second one is an external google search with the site specified as pepipoo.

Some people think that I make them feel stupid. To be fair, they deserve most of the credit.

If that's true then it's somewhat of a crippling limitation given the number of apposite TLAs used here like IAS, NTK, NTD, PMC, ....

Not really.

This is what the result of an external google search with the site specified as pepipoo looks like:

And this is what the internal search results look like:

Note the URL. The search tool might well be provided by, or have components provided by, or use scripts hosted by, Google, but it is not really an external Google search.

But even if it were, who sat at their desk and decided that they would provide a way for people to search for 3-character terms using one of the provided methods, but not the other?

What was their rationale?

Where was the logic and consistency in their decision making?

Can they provide an intelligent and coherently argued justification for it?

Do they have to?

Only in the generic sense that anybody who makes decisions like that (i.e. not influenced by emotion/fear/prejudice/etc) ought to be able to.

But it is what it is - I've done my best.

Whoever that person is, they're not around anyway. Sadly we've not heard from any of the site admins for years.

Are Stephen Smith and Michael Morgan not doing anything with the site? They are maintaining Pepitec as a ltd company and it had £37,000 in assets as of 2021. Accounts are due by the end of this month.

As some point the site will probably fall over as it's old software - I'm getting a lot of stalled loads although that may be the server it's running on.

You could always add "site:forums.pepipoo.com" instead to your search engine search. That may yield more useful results to you.

Obviously that will depend on what your search engine of choice has managed to cache over time.

Most forum software isn't great when it comes to searching, this is no different.

If I were you I wouldn't try searching for anything on Screwfix. It could lead you to trauma. smile.gif
