Hi,
This came up when we were chewing the fat about identification, security etc. And it got me wondering because I've always thought that the address on your driving licence just needs to be one at which you could receive mail, whereas someone else thought it is required to be your main residence. What's the actual law where this is defined?

Thanks, Tony S

I don't think there is a law that specifies you must have a permanent resident address but DVLA won't accept PO boxes etc unless you can prove you have a good reason such as living on a canal boat.

From the DVLA leaflet INS57P 'The address must be one in GB where we can contact you at any time (we do not accept PO box addresses'

Where do "travellers" register their vehicles to, assuming (a) they aren't Irish registered and (b) they can be bothered to register them anywhere at all? Likewise for their driving licence.

You seem to be under the misapprehension that Travellers spend all their time travelling - they don't. The great majority actually live in fixed settlements most or all of the time, with an address and everything. Unfortunately the ones people notice tend to be those in unauthorised encampments in a Tesco car park leaving a pile of trash and s*** behind when they leave, rather than the 90+% living more like the settled community. You could probably have Googled "where do travellers register their vehicles to" and answered your own question. smile.gif

Fredd
