hi all,
just curious, do the HADECS3 behave like SPECS ie they they monitor your average speed between the gantrys i know when the motorway speed limit changes on the gantrys they have a one minute delay before they kick in on the actual speed limit displayed on the gantry thanks, rob |

As I understand it the 'smart motorway' infrastructure would theoretically allow the system to monitor average speed. It would not be based on the Hadecs unit itself. No. Why? How will it do that? You have a series of gantries all at known locations with various cameras/ANPR technology on them. Therefore 'theoretically' it could be used to measure average speeds. The future of 'pay as you drive' is based around the same infrastructure. |

The future of 'pay as you drive' is based around the same infrastructure. "Theoretically" they could be used for all kinds of things if someone chose to chuck enough money into developing the capabilities, although why you would choose to spend large sums converting fixed point cameras into average speed cameras, rather than just buy a SPECS system, I don't know. I'm not sure how it helps people such as the OP to speculate on what they could do in some parallel universe. -------------------- Regards,

Simplistically, from a drivers perspective, HADECS3 is no different to the original Gatso*. the only difference is how the secondary check is made and that you get a photo of the car travelling under the gantry to help prove what limit was displayed.
*Instantaneous measure of speed, photo taken and flashes any time it does, only difference is 1 flash not two. -------------------- There is no such thing as a law abiding motorist, just those who have been scammed and those yet to be scammed!

There are no lines needed for Hadecs 3! It uses two virtual lines and takes the photo and if the car is in the virtual lines its the secondary confirmation. More like Truvelo than Gatso.

No its not between gantries, yes they do only monitor at gantries.
The lower two photos are as it goes under (is just past) the gantry (gantry base just visible lower left of each photo - grey), the top left photo is from a different camera much further back up the road showing the gantry display as the car goes underneath it. That said the car does appear to have moved between the two lower photos.
