Hi Everyone

This seems like the best place to post on the net.

I was stopped by an officer with a speed gun, was told I was doing 44 in a 30 asked to hop out and supply ID however I only had bank card. He did not do anything asked if I had any previous I replied no firs time being stopped.
He went over to his car and checked said yes you are correct. So asked for my name and me to sign his ipad.

He did explain I was "on the cusp" of the speed awareness course but over by 2mph - showed me his table on the tablet. He said it still could be a possibility seeing as it is my first offence and 12/13 years of driving.

Does anybody have any experience of the potential outcomes? He did not give me any paperwork just said I should receive a NIP through the post I'm sure he said 4-6 months I could be wrong? or misheard him.

The net mentions all kinds of fines possible? not sure what to believe it is the metropolitan police.

What am I likely to get? has anybody been offered an awareness course? at this kind of speed.

No chance, all areas stick rigidly to the national guidelines for courses. You should get a fixed penalty of £100 + 3 points. Either the officer did not know or wanted to avoid a confrontation.

Hi All

44 in a 30 - was given a verbal NIP (you do not have to say anything...)

Officer said I was on the cusp of a awareness course however if not a FPN.

Having read a lot on this site I understand I could/should have got a TOR? I'm worried maybe that the NIP I get through may have something else written on it? or am I being paranoid?

Any help is appreciated? also can I expect 3 points and £100 fine?

Very worried but waiting patiently.

You are being paranoid.

You'll receive a CoFP in the post shortly*. (It's too fast for a course)

* unless they decide to go to court but that's unlikely

Hi making me worried now? so what did I get? officer did say it was going to be reported.

The law requires you to be "warned at the time the offence was committed that the question of prosecuting him for some one or other of the offences to which this section applies would be taken into consideration". It sounds as if you were, so no written NIP is required.

44 in a 30

My question is should I pay the £100 and take the 3 penalty endorsements (best option)

Or call the number on the letter (inquiries) and ask if I can be considered for a speed awareness course. Seeing as 12/14 years of driving etc first offence.

Or am I being stupid and should just take the punishment?

44 in a 30 is too high to meet the criteria to be offered a course.

The form sent back to me didn’t say my speed.

Has there ever been an occasion where you can call up and ask?

My thinking is if I pay over the telephone services now and post the form signed with my drivers license today special delivery I won’t get the chance to ask?! About the course

Wow they did not waste any time. Paper come through today no sign of the course grrrrr

Asked me to pay and complete form and send off license to the conditional unit at dvla
3 points and £100 thanks for all the advise guys.

My last question is I understand the endorsements last 3 years on the license but come off on the 4th? So does that I mean after 3 years I don’t need to tell the insurance company?

Can anybody possibly let me know how much their premium went up by with 3 points ? On their records...
My renewal is in June and I will have to let them know!

It depends on what they ask. Normally I've seen them ask if there were any convictions in the last five years, in which case obviously you would have to tell them.

Some forums suggesting 3 points barely affected their premium maybe £40-60 higher

You won't be sending your licence to the DVLA but the Police.

If requested you have to tell insurers for 5 years.
