Hi, I was unfortunately in an accident last year and was cautioned (or maybe they said charged?) at the scene with driving without due care and attention which I don't accept, but that's a different matter.

Anyway, my query is that it's now been over 6 months since and I've had no contact from the police since the day of the accident when I gave my statement. Am I in the clear now or can they still prosecute?
If it makes a difference they've still not produced the report or provided it to the insurance (so they are bickering with each other). I'm not an expert but due to the circumstances I didn't think it was likely to happen (and I'd have challenged it with advice from here) but I'd like to know for sure.

Thanks

They have to start proceedings within six months, but you may not hear immediately when they do. So if it was towards the end of last year you may not necessarily be in the clear yet.

What would be a reasonable amount of time or when would I be considered 'safe' we're a few weeks beyond so far.

If you get to seven months you should be fairly sure you are "safe".
