Hello guys

I have a question id like to ask.

Ok so on the 16th of april I think I may have been caught speeding by a mobile camera van ( yes my own fault). I don't
really go over speed limits but on this particular day id had some pretty bad news and was in a rush to get home. Think I may
have been doin a maximum of 90mph in a 60mph zone (The A141). The date of when I was speeding was as stated above
the 16th april, today the 8th of may and I have had nothing in the post. Yes I was at fault but am now bricking it.

What should I expect?

Any advice guys

Ok guys, today is 4 weeks from the date of the incident and yet still I have received nothing in the post. The car has been In my name since september and I've been at my current address For 8 years. I'm guessing I should have received a NIP by now or should I still be on edge ?

This kind of makes me feel a bit better. So it's now been 5 weeks 2 days since it happened. I have now read that people have had tickets 4 - 5 months after they were caught speeding, should this be the case how would I stand ??

The registered keeper has to be informed of the intention to take action within 14 days, 4-5 months is for further action after that.

OP.

I think we can all be confident you'll hear no more about this. So no need to update the forum each month.

The OP cannot really relax until approx month 9, though s/he may have a defense for a late NIP, provided correct RK address was supplied to DVLC.
A NIP for speeding normally includes a seperate/combined s172, requiring RK n.to name driver at time of Contravention.
No 'bad news' permits a driver to exceed the speed limit for the road.
Due care and attention springs to mind.

You may say that, but If I ever see a nuclear explosion in my rear view mirror, I'm not sticking around.

Unless you can accelerate to 0.99c within a microsecond, you might as well stick to the speed limit in these circumstances!

If it's a tactical weapon, and it's several miles away, getting as far away from any fallout as possible seems like a good idea to increase survival chances. Depending on wind speed and direction, it could make all the difference. Besides I'd have a cast iron defence of necessity should the matter end up in court.

I carry a particularly fine bottle of whiskey and a bag of ice in a smash glass case in the centre console for just such an eventuality.

I disagree. If you live long enough to see the mushroom could in your mirrors, you haven't been killed by the immediate explosion, which means you have reasonable chances of survival if you don't hang about. After all, the videos of mushroom clouds you can find from footage of old nuclear tests were all shot from only a few miles away from the explosion and the cameras and their operators survived.

So at that point the immediate issue is going to be shockwave and fallout. Shockwave dissipates quite rapidly with distance, so if you're a dozen miles away or more it's unlikely to have much impact, and if you're closer, every mile between you and the explosion increases the chances of survival. At just 120 mph you're gaining 2 miles a minute so just 15 minutes puts you an extra 30 miles away from the explosion, that 30 miles might be the difference between the shockwave smashing your car windows, your ear drums and possibly killing you, vs just hearing a really loud explosion.

The next biggest threat in this scenario is nuclear fallout, but again at a fairly pedestrian 120 mph you're going to be travelling faster than the fallout is being blown along by the wind, which means that even if it's moving towards you, you can outrun it. Within a couple of hours you could get to 200+ miles from the explosion, at which point you should be able to find some indoor shelter and hopefully some information on wind speed and direction.

And then what? I recommend you watch a couple of very old TV programmes, The War Game or Threads, if you think that there's much prospect of driving a hundred miles or so and everything being alright.
