I am conflicted. Whilst I initially got a warm glow from hearing that one of the menaces to other road users who (in addition to invariably being a menace to other road users) is upset at being prosecuted for driving a mechanically propelled vehicle without any of the legal requirements, it reminds me that we sadly only have one such active case at the moment, indicating that the vast majority are still getting away with it.

Oh well, small victories and all that.

Some people think that I make them feel stupid. To be fair, they deserve most of the credit.

What (other than their conscience) stops someone just picking up these abandoned e-scooters and putting them in their boots to strip down for parts etc later?

The folks behind the doomed 'Mobike' project in Manchester would probably say the answer to that is "very little":

That said, Mobike didn't help themselves by touting their bikes as 'vandal proof', when it seemed to be fairly straightforward to snap off the wheel lock that prevented them being ridden without payment.

I am a Mancunian and I have to say that whenever I see a statement such as "this is %%%% proof" a voice in the back of my head says "oh really, hold my coat" lol
