They are only asking you to provide the identity of the driver at this point.
In all likelihood you would be offered a speed awareness course in lieu of points/fine, though the cost of the course would be a similar amount I think. If you know it was you and in the absence of any obvious defence, it is probably prudent to reply in good time so as not to squander the chance of that course, as a court cannot offer it if it gets that far. |

The NIP is always the first step in the process (unless you were stopped at the time). The offer of a course or whatever isn't made until the authorities know who the driver is, which at this stage they don't. So return the S172 request to name the driver and unless you have done a regular speed course in the last 3 years, an offer of a course would appear to be very likely.

is the fact I’ve received this NIP mean they are going for points and fine? No, they don't know who was driving yet can't know if they are eligible for a course or not, if they didn't send a NIP they couldn't then take any other action if they driver declined the course so would always start with a NIP even if they knew who was driving. You're overthinking it. -------------------- There is no such thing as a law abiding motorist, just those who have been scammed and those yet to be scammed!

Many thanks guys, I have no defence except my daughters car broke down on a B road that’s very narrow and I told her to get out of car and try and stand as far away from car as possible. So I was in a rush to get to her ( no excuse I know) Camera van was parked in a lay-by across from a school but I was caught coming around a bend up a hill, I had just passed a bike and was trying to get in before bollards in middle of road.
Anyway will fill it out and see what happens, I’m currently on ESA after spinal injuries, so income is tight around £150 a week so fine will hit me hard (my fault I know) Haven’t had any speeding points or fines for about 12 years |

The former usually means no declaration to your insurer (but read the policy!) but does take 4 hours out of your day (on line currently) - I found it patronising drivel but it depends who delivers it and one's own prior knowledge. 3 points on your licence at your age ould make nominal difference to your insurance premium. Send the form back in good time, get a proof-of-posting at the PO. |

That's certainly more like aggravating factors than mitigating. "I had to break the speed limit to complete an overtake that would have been unsafe at the speed limit"....
While it's unfortunate, the fixed cost options are still the cheapest, if you took it to court the fine would be circa 50% of your weekly income but you would have costs of £85 and a surcharge of £32. -------------------- There is no such thing as a law abiding motorist, just those who have been scammed and those yet to be scammed!
