I was on a dual carriageway way A road earlier, which has been put down to 40mph due to road works, my speedometer was showing 52-55mph, I know I shouldn't have been doing it..... On the opposite side of the dual carriageway is a pavement which had a speed van on it, from research the camera is in the side of the van. I only noticed it late, and tried to slow, but not sure if I slowed in time. Both sides of the road were busy, however I was in lane 2 when I passed, which would be nearer the van. I am not sure if it can get both sides of the carriageway where it was, or if the operator could only get his side, as such. Another point is that when I went back a few hours later the same van had been moved to cover the opposite carriageway, the one I had driven on earlier, to me this implies that it only covers one half of the dual carriageway at a time, would that be a fairly safe bet? Meaning it wouldn't have picked me up earlier on? Thanks |

Only a 14 day wait will answer your question if you are the registered keeper.

Oh okay. If I have been caught, am I looking at FPN or court?
I have a clean license held for 11 years, had 3 points back in 2012 but they are long since expired |

For a recorded speed upto 53mph, a course, above that a fixed penalty (3pts and £100). Court only for over 65mph.

It may have caught you long before you spotted the van: these speedmeters have a range of about 1 km.

It may have caught you long before you spotted the van: these speedmeters have a range of about 1 km. But my thinking is, why did they move it a few hours later to the exact same position on the opposite carriageway, it's as if they wanted to look at t traffic on the westbound side as well as the east, as they moved it a few hours later |

...to get back quicker at the end of their shift So they don't have to speed? -------------------- RK=Registered Keeper, OP=Original Poster (You!), CoFP=Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty, NtK=Notice to Keeper, NtD=Notice to Driver

If the camera has a clear line of sight it can record in both directions. |

The bastards were sat on the opposite side of the bridge but facing me so that they can catch people coming round the bend. You will be caught unfortunately because they can focus on whatever they want within a distance of a mile on either side. It takes literally seconds to do unless you are very lucky and they are having a coffee and doughnut break. You will possibly get a speed awareness course for it though because it’s within the threshold. That means no points, no fine and don’t even have to tell your insurance company so they can’t shaft you out of more money. This post has been edited by mc444: Tue, 4 Aug 2020 - 15:14 |

You will be caught That's very definite! QUOTE don’t even have to tell your insurance company so they can’t shaft you out of more money. Unless they ask about it, obviously. -------------------- Moderator

I would like to say that today is day 14. The postman has been and gone and no NIP.
So hopefully I am in the clear. However from now on I will be sticking firmly to the limit. Can't go through that again |
