Hi guys and gals,

Got this TFL PCN when in Hackney, N16 this week.

Was about to make my payment - no excuse this time - when I noticed the unclear sign.

The 'ON ANY DAY' isn't at all clear - see attached both TFL's photo and one from Google maps.

Would you think/know whether this gives any grounds for challenging or am I gonna waste my time?

Cheers!

So with the notification ‘on any day’ you would know you can’t stop there, on any day (7am-7pm).

Without that line of text you would also know you can’t stop there, on any day (7am-7pm).

I can’t think the sign is misleading (which day did you stop there??), but there are the exemptions mentioned on the sign, so do they apply?

But perhaps for completeness, we’d like to see the PCN, or read this and edit your post accordingly:

Seems clear enough to me - you can only use the bay for up to 20 minutes if you're loading or up to 3 hours if you have a Blue Badge between the hours of 7am and 7pm on any day of the week.
What were you actually doing while in this bay? It might count as loading. Were you "done" for overstaying the 20 minute maximum, or for not loading at all? If you're not sure, post up the PCN.
Why were you looking to make payment? It's a Red Route Bay and TfL do not charge (yet).
At the moment, the only ground for appeal is the sign facing the wrong way, and would certainly involve you making a case at Adjudication with the full £130 penalty at stake - it can be a bit of a 50/50 with some adjudicators ruling the sign must face oncoming traffic (as per regulations) and cancelling the PCN, but others cite "substantial compliance" and let the PCN stand.

Paying the PCN ??

The On any Day isn't IIRC permitted wording, I suspect it has been added to cover up a previous restriction, Mon to Sat for instance.
But I cannot see an adjudicator cancelling the PCN due to that.
That the sign is flat to the wall may be an excuse for stopping but not for parking BTW.

I doubt "on any day" is a permitted variant, but I also doubt an adjudicator would overturn the PCN because of that.

If we had the PCN and knew the location we might find something arguable

It's Olinda Road in Hackney - just off the High Road, Tottenham N16. Just had a look on GSV and the restriction has been the same since 2008 on both sides of the Road.

Thank You Dancing for clearing that up for me.
