Hello. I just wanted to ask. It didn't happen to me yet, but I was wondering and could'nt find the answer for it anywhere. Is the door ding considered as road or traffic accident.
Can you get points for not reporting door ding? |

Yes it is an accident, yes you could get a raft of convictions.
If someone were to have repoted you it is conceivable that there could be failing to report etc prosecution. Bit more likely they will just want to ensure insurance details are exchanged. |

Any incident that causes any sort of damage must be reported to the police unless full details have been given to anyone who reasonably requires them at the scene. Failing to stop or report an accident carries 5 to 10 points.

If it’s not happened and is just a casual enquiry your likley to find the thread in the flame pit as a mod’ will usually move such enquiries unless they become cases.

What if you don't notice the ding until weeks later?

Huge ding on my wife’s car, obviously from a door. No idea when it happened as no-one decided to leave a note and she only noticed when I pointed it out. £400 for a repair. Blah.

I recently spent more than I ever have a on a half decent low mileage car. In the first month the front grille got a scrape on a Morrison's car park.
I now park in the outer reaches of any car park where possible to avoid a repetition. Risk is reduced significantly & I get some exercise. |
