Dear forum members,

I have been caught speeding at 100mph along A9 (Inverness) side by police car (marked) with speed gun. It was at night, but no traffic & good visibility. The road limit is 60mph. It was a silly mistake as I was trying to speed away from a car who did not dim down his/her high beam. I told the police this & they had also recorded this statement.

The police informed me they intend to charge me with dangerous driving.

I am worried about the implications of this DD charge. Also I will away from UK for work for the next 3 months. I recognise the letter will come through my door in 2-3 months time.

Do I need to fly back to UK if I get the letter?
What are the likelihood of pleading for a lighter sentense?

Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks.

The Scottish police routinely charge with dangerous at high speed, this seems mostly to try and get you to plead guilty to careless (an alternate verdict for dangerous) instead, and despite there being case law that states that speeding of itself does not constitute sufficient grounds for dangerous driving anyway.

Not much can now be done until your recieve your citation and witness statements.

Thanks the rookie/simon,

I certainly hope you are right for i will 'gladly' plead guilty to careless driving now.

I wonder if there is anyone with similar situations as mine who escaped or got convicted with DD & if there are any advice I shd take up now or later on.

If you do a search for 'A9' you should be able to pull up some relevent threads:

http://www.pepipoo.com/search-results.htm?...9&sa=Search

Of the recent cases I don't think any of them have concluded yet or the threads have just stalled. The reason I wondered about location is because some sections on the road are worse than others hence I was wondering if the particular spot was making them go for DD straight off but based on the above responses probably not.
