What a complete knob, it's good to see the courts dishing out a punishment that fits the crime for once. I find it odd how "he claimed it was done "for a joke" and he had intended it to go to his table", if he ordered it for his table, then it wouldn't be a joke it would just be a bit of fruit he'd ordered that due to a mix-up went to the wrong table, and if it was ordered as a joke it could only be a racist joke.

Then obviously the deterrent for burglary is insufficient !!

Of course it is, IMO a first time offender should get 8 years no parole, instead they often get a few weeks and often even that can be suspended.

A reality check by a resonable person would answer those. It was a banana not a bullet................

Oh of course, because gestures likes this are never followed by further abuse or violence, that's unheard of, right?

You seem to think not, but can't recall any parallels that made the media? Can you share your sources?

Conversely, how pathetic do you have to be to become "upset, shocked and scared" over such an incident?

And how should it be perceived by the victim, considering his life experience as others have explained.

Who sent it an individual or a group?
Is it a message and what might that message be?
Is it a threat and what is that threat he then potentially faced?
Is he safe to leave the pub or is something going to happen outside?

You really don't understand real life experiences do you.

"My son's name is Theodore Apelogun and he's age 10. We live in Wexford. I’m Irish and his dad is Nigerian.
My son’s first encounter of racism was when he was 5. It started with the name calling then turned physical where he was playing with his "friends" one day and out of nowhere they cornered him and started to spit, hit and kick him including his head, and a few of the kids ran and got me. Then while he was playing two kids pulled a knife on him, I ran outside as I'd seen what was going on from the front door and stood in between my son and the boys as they were shouting "go home to your own country", which I found ironic as the boys were Polish.
I have no problem with any nationality whatsoever. I said he's Irish and he's my son as I told my son to run inside, I then grabbed my phone from my pocket and rang the Gardai then went and ‘talked’ to the kids parents. One was 13 and the other 14 years old called him names such as black rat, the N word and monkey. He now hates his skin colour and has been referred to a therapist which I find very upsetting because he's only 10 and should be enjoying his childhood carefree.
He loves GAA and is going to start boxing hopefully soon."

Did you note the progression there; from name calling to?

Maybe not compared to your vast self-declared wisdon, but I do know the difference between name-calling and a fruit, maybe you should research it?
