For that time into red I would expect an offer of a driver improvement course, assuming no aggravating factors.

Thank you - if they offer the fixed penalty, can I request the course?
Not keen on the thought of driving round with 9 points. |

If they decide you are eligible then they will automatically offer one.

...but if they don't then there's no harm in asking. (But see what happens next)

It depends on the criteria Merseyside Police use. I would suggest most forces may offer a course for this time in to red.
You have to remember that no force has to offer a course. It's an option that they may offer but it's not guaranteed. If they don't offer the course you'll have the options of 3 points and a £100 fine or you can request the offence is heard at court, assuming you have mitigation for committing the offence or you have proof that no offence was committed. If a course is not offered you can but if they say 'no' you have no grounds to argue. -------------------- Been dealing with this stuff for too many years!

assuming you have mitigation for committing the offence Pretty pointless taking it Court just for mitigation for most people as the penalty will still be higher than the fixed penalty once costs/surcharge are added. -------------------- There is no such thing as a law abiding motorist, just those who have been scammed and those yet to be scammed!
