Hi all,
I’ve received a NIP for 47 in a 30. The road was a 50 then switched to a 30 pretty quickly it was also dark and very early in the morning obviously a good spot for them to setup. I’ve tried looking at the pics and it’s pitch black with only the headlights and number plate showing. On the NIP It also says recorded at 47mph and then speed limit at the time was mph and there’s no numbers in. Worried as to what punishments is as obviously 47 in a 30 doesn’t sound great without the context of the 50 zone. NIP ATTACHED PLEASE HELP. Any help appreciated This post has been edited by gangsta1: Sun, 23 Sep 2018 - 18:33 |

The road was a 50 then switched to a 30 pretty quickly All speed limits switch "pretty quickly", i.e. the moment you pass the terminal sign. There is no deceleration zone or whatever. How does this one differ from all the rest? I just mean it dropped 20 mph and was more difficult to get down to 30 so quick. Obviously it’s over the limit I just feel the van was strategically placed as it was just has it dropped to 30 It’s more the concern of being 17mph over and what penalty that comes with. |

Shouldn’t the NIP say speed limit at the time? It does just say MPH and not 30mph.

I just mean it dropped 20 mph and was more difficult to get down to 30 so quick. Had the brakes failed? Being serious even at half g deceleration (firm but only roughly half the achievable level) it will only take about 2 seconds braking to get from 50 to 30, that only requires you to see the signs from more than 50 yards away (and you don't need to read the 30 to know you will have to slow from 50 on a single carriageway). Slowing from 50 to 47 would only take about 1/4 of a second...... If you want to avoid more points you can't just coast from when you see a lower limit sign, sometimes you'll need to brake, if you are honest with yourself you know you could have slowed easily to 30 had you decided to. -------------------- There is no such thing as a law abiding motorist, just those who have been scammed and those yet to be scammed!
